I am Hari Gurung, the Founder and Managing Director of Outbound Treks, but my journey in the mountains started long before the company. I grew up in Ruby Valley, Dhading, at the foothills of Ganesh Himal, where life was simple and closely connected to nature.
At 17, I started working as a porter while studying in Kathmandu. I had little knowledge of English and no family connections in the trekking industry, but I was determined to learn. Working alongside trekkers gave me the opportunity to improve my English, understand the trails, and discover that guiding was more than a job for me.
Over the years, I progressed from porter to assistant guide and eventually became a professional trekking guide. I have now spent more than 12 years guiding in Nepal and exploring regions including Everest, Annapurna, Manaslu, Mustang, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga.
Today, I lead Outbound Treks with the same values that shaped my journey: honest service, genuine hospitality, teamwork, and responsible travel. I believe the best trekking experiences come from trust, local knowledge, and personal attention. My goal is simple: to help every traveler experience Nepal with confidence and leave with memories worth carrying home.
