The 7 Days Annapurna Base Camp Trek begins with a scenic, short drive from Pokhara to Nayapul. You will drive on a winding mountain road, passing through the charming countryside. The road takes you past rolling green hills, rivers, suspension bridges, and terrace farms. While most treks to Annapurna Base Camp start from Nayapul, you will drive to Syauli Bazaar and then to Kimche.

From Nayapul, you will start driving on a narrow and dusty off-road. The road follows the Modi Khola valley. Along the way, you will drive past small settlements and terraced fields. The road climbs steeply along a rough, zigzag mountain road to Kimche.

Kimchi serves as the starting point for the short Annapurna Base Camp Trek. You will gradually start trekking on stone staircases that take you through rhododendron forests. Similarly, you will pass by small settlements with hillside terrace farms. You will gradually gain elevation when you reach Ghandruk.

Ghandruk is one of the biggest Gurung villages in the Annapurna region. There are traditional stone houses with slate roofs. There are also many teahouses, guesthouses, and homestays here. You will walk on the stone staircases through the forest of rhododendron and oak. Right before you reach Kimrong Khola, you will cross a small suspension bridge. The real challenging trek begins here.

The ABC Trek route begins to ascend steadily. There are also steep ascent sections along the way. You will pass by small settlements and terrace farms as you climb on the stone steps mixed with natural trails. The higher you go, the more open the views become.

Today’s trek is mostly an uphill climb with some descending sections. Along the trail, you can get clear views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre. From the Modi Khola Valley, you can also get a clear panoramic view of the mountain vistas. You will continue to ascend on continuous stone steps until you reach Chomrong. It is a large Gurung village, also the last permanent settlement before entering deeper into the Annapurna region.

If you arrive at Chomrong early, you can trek a little further to Sinuwa. From Chomrong, the trail descends steeply to the Chomrong Khola. Then, you will again climb uphill through dense forest. It takes 2 to 3 hours to reach Sinuwa from Chomrong. Depending on your arrival time, you will either stay in Chomrong to continue trekking or in Sinuwa.

If you stayed overnight at Chomrong, you would first head to Sinuwa. The Annapurna Base Camp Trekking trail from Sinuwa enters dense forest of rhododendron, oak, and bamboo. It is a serene trekking experience with occasional sounds of insects, birds, and rushing rivers. You will trek along the Modi Khola river valley on narrow forest paths.

There are gentle uphill climbing sections with occasional flat paths. Similarly, you will cross small streams over wooden bridges. On the way, you will come across waterfalls and moss-covered cliffs. You can also catch a glimpse of distant peaks like Machhapuchhre as you arrive at Bamboo.

From the village of Bamboo, the trail starts to ascend steadily along a side ridge and river terraces. You will ascend steep stone steps and trek on uneven, rocky paths. The vegetation also gradually thins as you move to higher elevations.

Passing through small settlements, waterfalls, and streams, you will reach Dovan. It is a small campsite, ideal for short breaks. The ABC trek route begins to ascend more steeply from Dovan. It will take you through a narrow valley surrounded by cliffs.

You will trek on rocky sections and stone staircases, while enjoying the spectacular views of the Annapurna South massif and Hiunchuli. It takes you to Himalaya, a small cluster of teahouses. Himalaya is located at a steep, narrow section of the Modi Khola gorge. You can stay here for the night. If it is still early, you will trek further to Deurali. The trail from the Himalaya requires you to trek up steep stone steps.

Similarly, there are some loose rocky sections. After about 2.5 hours of trekking, the valley opens up, and you will reach Deurali. You will get stunning views of the surrounding rocky ridges, glacial moraines, and the peaks of the Annapurna Sanctuary. Deurali is a small and quiet settlement, where you will rest for the night.

You will start a bit earlier if you are starting from Himalaya. You will climb along the upper Modi Khola valley to Deurali. From here, the surroundings start to become more alpine, with sparse trees. The 7 Days Annapurna Base Camp Trek route takes you along a wide glacial valley. You will cross the rocky paths and glacial moraines.

Likewise, you will pass through avalanche-prone zones, where you can see snow debris and rockfall zones. The trekking trail will follow the upper section of the Modi Khola. The alpine meadows give way to rocky fields with boulders, moraine, and snow patches.

Trekking through rocky fields, the valley widens, and you will get your first up-close view of the snow-covered peaks. It takes you to the Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC) from where you will walk along a wide glacial valley, crossing rocky paths and moraine sections.

You can get a close view of Machhapuchhre as well as Annapurna I, Annapurna South, and more. The trail from MBC is less steep, but the high altitude slows progress. It gradually ascends across a broad alpine basin through glacial moraine and rocky paths. Finally, you will reach the Annapurna Base Camp, a natural amphitheater surrounded by peaks. You will spend the night at the base camp.

You will leave the Bamboo village and ascend slightly through lush forest. The stone steps and mixed forest trail will take you to Sinuwa. From here, you will descend and retrace your steps to Chomrong and then to Chomrong Khola. While descending is easier than ascending, continuous descent can strain your knees. Using a trekking pole relieves pressure on the knees and improves balance on uneven terrain.

From Chomrong Khola, you will begin your descent and then ascend slightly towards Jhinu Danda. The return ABC Trek route passes by small villages and terrace farms. As altitude decreases, breathing becomes easier. Following the trail, you will reach Jhinu Danda, famous for its hot water springs. You will stay here overnight, so take a chance to dip in the hot springs for muscle recovery.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek Additional Information

Can I Safely Reach Annapurna Base Camp in 7 Days Without a Rest Day?

Yes, you can reach the Annapurna Base Camp safely in 7 Days without a rest day if you have reasonable fitness. During the trek, you will cover the distance of 70-80 km (round trip). The itinerary is fast-paced, so the trekking days are longer. In addition to covering long distances, you will also rapidly ascend to a higher altitude. So, you must be able to handle long hours of trekking on diverse terrain and high altitudes.

One of the main concerns about the 7 days itinerary is the risk of altitude sickness. As you ascend rapidly, you are quickly exposed to thinner air and changing weather. There are no rest days, so your body will have less time to adjust to the growing altitude. It further increases the risk. The best way to reduce the risk is to start slowly in the first few days and stay hydrated. Our 7 Days itinerary is curated keeping this in mind. In the first two days, the trekking duration is relatively short, and the elevation gain is also moderate. The day also begins early, so that you can avoid afternoon clouds, strong winds, and fatigue.

Compared to other high-altitude trekking routes in Nepal, the Annapurna Base Camp Trekking trail has a strong network of teahouses. You will come across villages with teahouses or small rest stops every few hours. Hence, it is easier to manage fatigue, mild altitude discomfort, and weather changes. It also provides you with a sense of safety and peace of mind, knowing you are never too far away from help, shelter, or food. In case of an emergency, you can always stop early or descend quickly to a lower elevation.

The Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek is safe for physically fit and well-prepared trekkers. They need to prepare for long hours of trekking over varied terrain and at high altitudes. All trekkers should focus on building their strength, stamina, and endurance. Proper clothing and gear also help make the trek safe. With the right preparation, a positive mindset, and a well-planned itinerary, the Short ABC Trek can be completed safely.

Can Beginners Complete Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek?

Yes, beginners with good physical fitness and proper preparation can complete the 7 Days Short ABC Trek. ABC is one of the most accessible high-altitude destinations in Nepal. Having said that, the trek is not an easy walk in the park, although it is labeled beginner-friendly. It is important to understand the challenges and prepare accordingly.

The first challenge that beginners must understand is that the short trek to Annapurna Base Camp itinerary is more compressed than the standard one. Within a week, you will ascend from an elevation of 820 m to an altitude of 4,130 m. The rapid altitude gain is especially tough for beginners as they do not have time to acclimatize. They might struggle to acclimatize and experience mild symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, or nausea. It is crucial to stay hydrated, rest well, and listen to your body.

The next challenge is the long walking hours. First-time trekkers who are not used to walking for long hours on uneven terrain might find it more physically demanding. They might underestimate the physical toll of trekking for multiple consecutive days. It can put strain on legs, knees, and feet over the days. So, beginners must train for long walks on uneven terrain. It is also highly advised that they wear sturdy boots with good ankle support and use a trekking pole to reduce the strain.

Many beginners also suffer from mental challenges during the trek. The physical fatigue over the year can turn into psychological fatigue. Additionally, challenges such as unexpected weather changes, varying temperatures, and limited facilities can cause mental strain on trekkers. To overcome these challenges, beginners must first research the challenges of ABC Trek. Carrying proper clothing and energy bars, and checking weather forecasts, are essential.

The 7 Days Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek in Nepal is a challenging adventure for beginners. Fortunately, its challenges can be managed. Hiring experienced local guides through registered trekking agencies also helps to ease the difficulties for beginners.

If you are on a short vacation but still want to experience the classic trekking trail, the Annapurna Base Camp Trek 7 days itinerary is suitable for you. However, it is fast-paced and more physically demanding. So, you must be reasonably fit.

The Standard ABC Trek is more suitable if you have a flexible schedule and want a more immersive experience. If you are an absolute beginner, this itinerary may be more suitable as the ascent is gradual and acclimatization is better.

Hot Springs at Jhinu Danda After 7 Days ABC Trek

At the end of the Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek route lies the village of Jhinu Danda (1,780 m). It is a small village that is famous for its natural hot springs. It is one of the most popular stops along the ABC Trek and the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek route. There are various teahouses and lodges in the village. As per our itinerary, you will reach Jhinu Danda on Day 6. It is the final overnight stop for the short ABC Trek.

The hot springs of Jhinu Danda are natural, geothermally heated pools. These pools are formed from the Himalayan mountain streams. The water temperature ranges from 37°C to 42°C (98°F–108°F). It is perfect for relaxing tired muscles. Similarly, the spring water is rich in minerals. Locals believe these waters have natural healing properties, such as skin rejuvenation, muscle recovery, and relief from minor joint pain. They also believe that the springs have a calming effect on the mind. It helps trekkers to recover from the altitude-related stress.

In addition to the healing effects, stunning scenery surrounds these hot springs. These are located amidst a tranquil forest and river valley setting. Likewise, there are many small waterfalls and streams nearby. One can relax their bodies after the challenging trek in the warm water while enjoying the surrounding views and distant peaks. These also create spectacular photo opportunities, especially in the morning or late afternoon.

The hot springs of Jhinu Danda are also spots for socialization. Fellow trekkers from different walks of life and local villages come here to bathe and relax. They can interact with one another and even take a glimpse at the traditional Nepalese rural life. It makes the village not just a spot for rest and rejuvenation, but also a cultural meeting point. Soaking your tired muscles at the end of the trek and experiencing the warmth of local hospitality in the serene Himalayan surroundings of Jhinu Danda is the best possible way of ending the short ABC Trek.
